ESOL Short Reading Response

How do I write a
short reading response???

Use these guidelines if you are stuck! You shouldn’t use the same sentence starters every time though!

Information about the text

Title of Book: Matariki
Author: Waitangi
Genre/Text Type: information text
Date Read: 19/02/20

One paragraph about the basic details of the text

This text was about a group of seven stars called Matariki. It is also the name for the Maori New Year.
These groups of stars can be seen most of the year but disappear at night in New Zealand in late April.
Matariki has other names, one of them is Seven Sisters. People say that the brightest among the seven
stars is the eldest sister that guides her younger sisters in the sky. The old story tells that when stars
shine brightly the year good crops will grow and lots of seafood to catch. I chose to read this text
because I’ve seen these stars before and I wanted to know the old story about them.

One Paragraphs about interesting details

One interesting feature was that old folks believe when the stars shine bright it can give them good corps
and lots of fish to catch. This is a belief and that people would celebrate Matariki in lots of ways .This
means that people value the old traditions. This relates to  me because some filipino traditions have been
celebrated now and then.
A paragraph discussing links between the text and yourself, the world or other texts

I can relate to the main character’s  because even though Matariki is an old tradition some people manage
to keep it in the present. The character reminds me of people back in the Philippines we valued the old
traditions that the old folks  have left for us to continue.
